These fingerless mittens are a quick and fun knit - perfect for last minute gift knitting or a project in between! It’s also a perfect project if you want to knit something else than socks, but also with a lovely sock yarn, that’s just too nice to be knit into socks or somewhat special to you.
They are knit out of fingering weight yarn. I used BAERENWOLLE BAERfoot Sock in the color way "Zimtstange", which is just the perfect speckled brown I have ever seen! The pattern is currently available in sizes Small and Medium for women, but I am working on a size Large as well.
Pattern details:
The mittens start at the cuff with a twisted rib and also end with it, which provides a clean and nice look, enough elasticity, but keep the mittens close to your skin, so no cold air can slip in. The cables are only worked on the top of the hand, the inside of the mitten is in stockinette. There is one bigger cable in the middle of the pattern (which changes direction depending on which mitten you are knitting - for the left or the right hand), and two smaller cables on either side of the bigger one. In between the calbes are purl stitches. You are going to make increases for the thumb, that make the mitten more comfortable to wear.
I used for each pair I have knit so far about 40 grams of yarn, which means less than 200 meters. My lovely Testknitter Sandra from the Craftfulness Podcast used even less - only 30 grams of fingering weight sock yarn - knit out of her own hand dyed yarn.
